Documenting Teresa Carreño

Theatre Royal (July 23 and 24, 1907)


Carreño appeared at the Theatre Royal in Christchurch, New Zealand. The Australasian Tour was under the direction of Benno Scherek. On July 23, 1907 she performed Sonata, op. 57 (Appassionata) (Beethoven, Ludwig van), Prelude, op. 23, no. 15, Nocturne, op. 62, no. 1, Etude in G-flat, Polonaise in A-flat, op. 53 (Chopin, Fryderyk), Romanza, Barcarolle, G Major (Rubinstein, Anton), La campanella (Paganini, Niccolò (arr. Liszt)), Sonnetto del Petrarca, Etude in D-flat, and Rhapsodie hongroise no. 6 (Liszt, Franz).

On July 24, 1907 she performed Sonata, op. 53 (Waldstein) Beethoven, Ludwig van, Nocturne, op. 37, no. 2, Etude, A-flat, Ballade, op. 23, G Minor, Waltz, op. 42, A-flat (Chopin, Fryderyk), Rondo, op. 51, no. 2 (Beethoven, Ludwig van), Impromptu, op. 142, Erlkönig (Schubert, Franz (arr. Liszt)), Nocturne Tchaikovsky, Peter Ilich), Si oiseau j’etais a toi je volerai (Henselt, Adolf), and Polonaise, E Major (Liszt, Franz). Carreño performed on a Bechstein piano. The concerts began at 8:15 pm.
